The biggest IFTTT Channel yet - Maker

I love IFTTT and use it a lot. I also love to tinker with some web projects, and now I can combine both.

Integrating API's of services like Google Drive, Dropbox is somehow a pain. The maker channel from IFTTT is now the bridge to those and 193 more channels. This opens a lot of possibilities, from sending email, storing files, collecting data, opening garage doors etc.

I especially like that you can use the DO companion apps on your mobile phone to trigger events or even collect data for your own service.

Maker Channel

The Maker Channel allows you to connect IFTTT to your personal DIY projects. With Maker, you can connect a Recipe to any device or service that can make or receive a web request.

How to Make Your Content Go Viral

If you asked Google a few years ago, “What makes things go viral?” you would get a simple answer: It’s luck. No one can predict what will go viral. You might as well buy a lottery ticket. And that’s a great theory — except for the fact that it’s completely wrong. http://mashable.com/2013/07/09/jonah-berger-viral-content/

How to Write a Chrome App for your Website in 5 Minutes

Today I published a Chrome app and an extension for this website in the Google Chrome store. I have never written apps for Chrome before but it turns out (see video tutorial) that one can write a basic Chrome app and push it to the Chrome store in less than five minutes. http://www.labnol.org/software/create-chrome-apps-extensions/27958/

Deke’s Techniques: Correcting an underwater photograph

A side effect of shooting underwater is that colors are filtered away by the water between your lens and the subject. A flash can help, but there will still be some color loss. You can bring back the full-color glory of sea life, though, by using the tools in Photoshop. http://blog.lynda.com/2013/06/04/dekes-techniques-correcting-an-underwater-photograph/

Finally a way to backup your Bitly (bitmarks) links

What I like most about Bitly is the option to use my own custom domain for shortening the urls. In my case I use 0am.co I wanted to use my own domain because I thought that in the case that bitly goes out of business or whatever I can take my short urls and just move them to my own server  - but the problem is that bitly locks me in.

There is no official backup solution. At least now with IFTTT you can automatically create a backup while you are creating new bitmarks.

I've setup a quick recipe that appends new links to a textfile in dropbox - so go ahead and tinker with it to your liking and get a copy of your shortened links.

#bitly   #bitmarks   #ifttt   #recipe

Use this ifttt Recipe: Backup Bitly to Dropbox Textfile Put the internet to work for you.
